Bryn Oh Leaves the Linden Endowment for the Arts

Well known artist Bryn Oh announced today that she has decided to step down from her position at the Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA). One of the founding members of the LEA, Bryn says her departure was directly prompted by the recent and controversial changes in Linden Lab's Terms of Service, in particular the revamped Section 2.3, summarized well by Inara Pey back on September 11. (Many other bloggers have also discussed the implications of the ToS changes.) Whether Bryn's gesture will add any fuel to this fire remains to be seen, but in the meantime I would like to express my thanks to Bryn for her work with the LEA and for advancing the arts in Second Life.

  1. Wow. Bryn Oh is a powerhouse in the SL art world. That's a big vote of no confidence in LL.

  2. I wish LL would get their fucking shit together. A community runs smoothly when it is run FOR the community. They have completely lost sight of what makes the community strong. What a serious loss for SL. Bryn Oh is just one of many who have left SL because LL refuses to retract their draconian TOS. For a company valued at around 800 million, you'd think they would be able to afford a bit of human kindness.

  3. Bryn has not left Second Life; she stepped down from the board of the Linden Endowment for the Arts.

  4. "Linden Lab respects the proprietary rights of Second Life’s content creators. We regret that our intention in revising our Terms of Service to streamline our business may have been misconstrued by some as an attempt to appropriate Second Life residents’ original content." extract from LL response to concerns.

I read elsewhere that Bryn Oh has been banned from LEA sims on the basis of antisocial behavior (2017). Clarification is apparently necessary for any concerned parties.

    1. Bryn Oh hasn't been banned from any LEA sims and continues to contribute to the arts in Second Life. You're probably confusing her with SaveMe Oh, who has had a history of being banned from LEA sims — there's no connection between the two individuals.
