Opening tomorrow, Sunday, May 4 at 1 pm slt at The Skywalk Gallery in The Station, and curated by Kara Trapdoor, is a Steampunk Exhibit (with steampunk attire suggested for the opening). It's subtitled The Blogger's Exhibit, as Kara invited ten bloggers to each contribute two images — Bear Silvershade, Bouncer Criss, Bryn Oh, Burly Tigerpaw, DanteAmore Rossini, Honour McMillan, Kathy Nikolaidis, Sparkie Cyberstar, Wicca Merlin and Ziki Questi. For my part, given the recent campaign to draw attention to a Petrovsky flux, I selected two images depicting that fabulous work. You won't see the exhibit from the landing point, but it's easy to find — simply follow the yellow arrows through the larger portion of the Shadows in Black & White exhibition (about which I wrote here back in December).
Kara had been planning a steampunk exhibition at the gallery, but hadn't found an artist whose work focused exclusively on the genre. "We began to consider how to gather some good steampunk art without taxing any one or two artists with having to make a whole series, when steampunk props and fashion can be relatively limited in SL," she says. "It occurred to us that so many bloggers are taking great photos of other’s works to feature on their blogs and really are making works of art themselves in doing so." While you're visiting, in addition to also seeing the Shadows exhibition, you can visit Technochory by Bryn Oh and Sina Souza, about which I wrote here.
